Happy May! My garden is booming – I feel so happy just looking at it – so I thought I’d share this little glimpse.

One of the best garden design choices I have ever made is to just do away with any attempt at a lawn, or really any kind of order, and just put the plants where they fit, and then scatter some seeds around them. The plants you can see in this photo include: California native poppy, Chickasaw blackberry, Aloe, Mission fig, Wonderful pomegranate and the crazy old rose bush that came with the house.

Also off to the right side of the photo you can see the tip of a double-wide hammock – my second best garden design choice.
